🍁 Family-Friendly Fall Fun in Kansas City
✔ Explore Pumpkin Hollow at Deanna Rose Farmstead
A must-visit for families with younger kids! Between the pumpkin patch, hayrides, and fall activities, plus, all of the animals already on site – Deanna Rose is the perfect place to burn some energy outdoors with the family!
✔ Take a fall foliage walk at the Overland Park Arboretum
Pack a stroller or let the kids run along the trails while you soak up the beauty of autumn. Don’t forget your camera—the Arboretum is breathtaking this time of year. This would be a great place to grab a few photos of your kids each year since the backdrops are beautiful. Then you can watch as they grow each fall!
✔ Go apple picking at Cider Hill Family Orchard
Nothing says fall like fresh-picked apples. Pick a bushel, enjoy a hayride, and grab a cider slushie while you’re there.
✔ Get lost in the Liberty Corn Maze
A Kansas City tradition opens on September 12th, 2025! Challenge your kids (or your spouse!) to see who can make it out the fastest. This year’s design highlights President Harry S. Truman, our local, homegrown American president.
✔ Sip a pumpkin spice latte—or warm apple cider—from a local coffee shop
Make it a cozy family outing, a quick pit stop on the way to weekend soccer games or sneak out on your own for a little alone time!
✔ Pick out pumpkins at KC Pumpkin Patch or Carolyn’s Pumpkin Patch
Both spots are packed with activities—think hayrides, slides, corn pits, and, of course, pumpkins in every size and shape.
✔ Treat yourself to apple cider donuts from Louisburg Cider Mill
No fall is complete without these legendary donuts. Bonus points if you grab a jug of cider for home. Plus, they have so many other activities to do on the property!
🎃 Seasonal Events You Don’t Want to Miss
✔ Attend Boo at the Zoo at the Kansas City Zoo
A family favorite! Costumes, trick-or-treating, and animals—it doesn’t get much better.
✔ Celebrate Oktoberfest at Crown Center
Bring the whole family for music, food, and festivities (parents, you’ll love the beer gardens). The music tent is the most exhilarating place to stay all day! This would also be a fun event to get a babysitter for so you can indulge in a little bit of beir stein fun!
✔ Visit a haunted house for a spooky date night
Kansas City is home to some of the top-rated haunted houses in the country—perfect for moms and dads who want a night of thrills without the kids.
✔ Stroll through Downtown Parkville during their fall festival
Think carnival rides, live music, and plenty of small-town charm.
✔ Attend Cornucopia at KC Power and Light District
This festival brings all things fall—pumpkins, food, games, and live entertainment—to the heart of downtown. We went as a family last year and we had so much fun! The petting zoo was our favorite part. If you are wondering if it’s ‘safe’ or comfortable for kids – our daughter was 18 months and she had a blast! We packed a snack bag and ordered a (full of good ole sugar) lemonade to share. It was a lovely day downtown!
🍂 Cozy Fall Traditions at Home
✔ Host a fall-themed potluck
Set up a ‘make your own’ Chili bar with all the toppings, pumpkin desserts, and spiced cider—invite friends and neighbors for an easy, festive gathering.
✔ Have a backyard bonfire with s’mores and cider
Kids love roasting marshmallows while parents relax under the stars… just kidding! As parents, we’re busy making sure no one gets too close to the fire, that the marshmallows are perfectly toasted, and that the chocolate doesn’t melt before it makes it onto the graham cracker. Sure, it’s a little work, but it’s always worth it to see those big smiles on our kids’ faces. And honestly—who doesn’t love a s’more?
✔ Host a family movie night
Pop some popcorn, toss in some m&ms, make hot cider, and watch fall classics like Hocus Pocus or It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
✔ Carve pumpkins on the patio
A timeless tradition that never gets old (don’t forget to roast the pumpkin seeds!).
✔ Rent a stack of Halloween books from the library
Perfect for winding down at bedtime while still keeping the fall fun going. And this saves you from having to purchase more books.
✔ Take a cooking class together
Seasonal soups, pies, or even homemade bread—this is a fun way to bring everyone into the kitchen. I would love to do this as an afternoon day date!
🍷 Parent Date-Night (Because You Deserve It Too!)
✔ Spend the day at Weston Orchard & Vineyard
The perfect blend of kid-friendly activities and parent-approved wine tasting. They have an apple orchard, pumpking patch, cider barn, marketplace and other attractions on the property.
✔ Book a winery date at Somerset Ridge Vineyard
Leave the kids at home and enjoy a romantic fall afternoon together.
✔ Plan a kid-free day trip to Weston
With shopping, wineries, and O’Malley’s Pub, Weston is the perfect fall escape for moms and dads.
✔ Head to Kansas Speedway for NASCAR
If you’ve got a need for speed, the fall NASCAR race is an adrenaline-filled outing that’s sure to become a tradition. CLICK HERE FOR 25% OFF TICKETS plus a FREE PreRace Pass (a $50 value) to the Cup Series Playoffs on September 28th, 2025!
